Description:

The Four Tops’ first Motown hit, “Baby I Need Your Loving” in 1964, made them stars and their sixties track record on the label is indispensable to any retrospective of the decade. Their songs, soulful and bittersweet, were across-the-board successes. “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch),” a no. 1 R&B and Pop smash in 1965, is one of Motown’s longest-running chart toppers; it was quickly followed by a longtime favorite, “It’s The Same Old Song” (no. 2 R&B/no. 5 pop). Their commercial peak was highlighted by a romantic trilogy: the no. 1 “Reach Out I’ll Be There,” “Standing In The Shadows Of Love” (no. 2 R&B/no. 6 pop) and “Bernadette” (no. 3 R&B/no. 4 pop)—an extraordinary run of instant H-D-H classics. Other Tops hits from the decade included “Ask The Lonely,” “Shake Me, Wake Me (When It’s Over),” “Something About You,” “You Keep Running Away,” “7-Rooms Of Gloom” and their covers of “Walk Away Renee” and “If I Were A Carpenter.” The group was also extraordinarily popular in the U.K.

When Motown left Detroit in 1972 to move to Los Angeles, the steadfast Tops decided to stay at home, and with another label. They kept up a string of hits with ABC-Dunhill for the next few years: “Ain’t No Woman (Like The One I’ve Got),” a Top 5 hit; the Top 10 “Keeper Of The Castle”; and the R&B Top 10’s “Are You Man Enough (from the movie Shaft In Africa),” “Sweet Understanding Love,” “One Chain Don’t Make No Prison” (later covered by Santana), “Midnight Flower” and the disco perennial “Catfish.”

Description:

Chubby Checker had the #1 song of the Sixties and is the only artist to have a song go to #1 twice with "The Twist." He had the first Platinum record and the first Rock & Roll Grammy with "Let's Twist Again." He is also the only artist to have nine double-sided hits, and the only artist to have five albums in the top 12 at the same time. With over fifty years in the music industry, he even had a #1 dance track in Billboard, in 2007 with his original song, "Knock Down the Walls." Chubby Checker has sold an amazing 250,000,000 records over the years. From Woodstock to the 21st century, artists and fans express themselves in a fashion that Chubby first presented to a national audience on American Bandstand in 1960.  That's the reason why Dick Clark said, "The three most important things that ever happened in the music industry are Elvis Presley, the Beatles, and Chubby Checker."

Description:

Brandy Clark is part of a new vanguard in country music — one that tips a hat to tradition, while not eschewing its evolution. "I see what's happening right now and I feel this groundswell of people who love... I would say 'country' music, but I'll take it a step further and say 'real' music. I feel like there are people who are starved for that," she says. "The only music I've ever made is country music. The only music I've ever really listened to consistently is country music. And I want to keep that alive, so there's a responsibility in that, for me."

Music from her album, Big Day in a Small Town recently scored Clark two Grammy nominations including, Best Country Solo Performance for “Love Can Go To Hell” and Best Country Album for “Big Day in a Small Town.”

Just let it go, and dive in — and get rockin’.” Don't miss this American original in the Celebrity Showroom, Saturday, April 22.

Description:

Graham Russell & Russell Hitchcock met on May 12, 1975, the first day of rehearsals for "Jesus Christ Superstar" in Sydney, Australia; they became instant friends with their common love for The Beatles and, of course, singing.

They played small venues with just a guitar and two voices until CBS Records in Australia signed them from a demo cassette and they made a single in one afternoon that shot to number one on the national charts.

After signing with Arista Records in 1980, the duo scored a string of top five singles and the songs “Lost in Love,” “All Out of Love,” “The One That You Love,” “Sweet Dreams” and “Making Love Out of Nothing At All” have achieved multi-million plays on the radio.
