Description:

Raised among the longleaf pines of North Carolina, Charlie began his career playing bluegrass music with the Misty Mountain Boys.  After moving to Nashville in 1967, he began making a name for himself as a songwriter, session musician and producer.  His own unique voice as an artist emerged as Charlie recorded his self-titled solo album in 1970 for Capitol Records. Two years later he formed the Charlie Daniels Band and the group scored its first hit with the top 10 “Uneasy Rider.”  Since then the CDB has populated radio with such memorable hits as “Long Haired Country Boy,” “The South’s Gonna Do it Again,” “In America,” “The Legend of Wooley Swamp,” and his signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” which won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1979 as well as single of the year at the CMA Awards.  Over the course of his career, Charlie has received numerous accolades, including induction into the Grand Ole Opry and Musicians Hall of Fame.  He’s been presented the Pioneer Award by the Academy of Country Music and was honored as a BMI icon in recognition of his songwriting.  He also received a star on the Music City Walk of Fame.

Description:

Fronted by iconic vocalist Kevin Cronin since 1972, REO Speedwagon is a band where the main constant over the decades is a never-ending desire to give their all to their fans, year in and year out.

Formed loosely in the late ‘60s, REO (named after the precursor to the light truck) rode to gigs in station wagons, hopping from small gigs to even tinier gigs, just to get their name out.  It worked, as fans quickly realized there was much more going on here than your average college party band.

By the early ‘70s, the band’s unrelenting drive, as well as non-stop touring and recording, jump-started the burgeoning rock movement in the Midwest. It carved a path that was eventually followed by STYX, Kansas, Cheap Trick and more. Platinum albums and freeform FM radio staples such as “Ridin’ The Storm Out” followed, setting the stage for 1980’s explosive Hi Infidelity. REO rode the top of the charts with a RIAA-certified 22 million albums sold in the U.S. and 40 million around the globe, with a string of gold and platinum records and international hit singles.

Today, fully established with songs on the radio in every city and town they ever set foot in, REO Speedwagon still has that Midwest work ethic. The band has gone on stage and in the studio to work– dozens of albums, thousands of concerts, and countless radio spins. Their eyes have always been on the future and on the road – not a year has gone by where REO Speedwagon didn’t perform live, thrilling fans with hit filled sets.

Believing in the power of food to bring people together to create lasting memories, Jolly explores the cultures and culinary stories of the world, adding them to his larder to share with others. This discovery of different regions and their local edible offerings deepens his knowledge of the craft, enriching his culinary story-telling abilities and allowing him to create innovative, tale-telling experiences. As Chef Jolly’s star rises on the national scene, he is still dedicated to mentoring culinary students and helping with nonprofit fundraising.

Demers worked in several New York City restaurants, including Le Cirque, under the acclaimed Chef Daniel Boulud. Demers moved to Las Vegas in 1995 and quickly landed at Fiore Restaurant at The Rio Hotel. He then became Chef for Napa Restaurant in Las Vegas from 1995 to 2001. In 2009, Demers began his journey with the M Resort at their tower Restaurant Veloce Cibo and Terzetto Steakhouse first as Room Chef and then Assistant Executive Chef by 2010. He was promoted again in 2012 to Executive Chef of the M Resort. Overseeing 12 departments, 23 chefs and 200+ team members, Chef Demers has helped the M Resort uphold its stellar reputation as a premier destination.

Battle Born Chef Competition with Brunch Sunday, May 27:

Sunday’s event will continue to feature the free festival, with live entertainment and a variety of culinary-related demonstrations. The highlight of Sunday morning will be the Battle Born Chef Competition, starting at 11 a.m. and featuring three Nevada chefs who will compete for top honors while preparing featured brunch items.

Battle Born Chef Competitors are:

Chef Darrin McKillip

Chef Darrin McKillip has been involved with the Food & Beverage community since he was 15 years old – five of those years with US Foods. McKillip has a culinary diploma, with honors, from Western Culinary Institute in Portland, Oregon, and a bachelor’s in business management from Western Governor’s University. He is active in local events, a chef board member for our local Chef’s Association (ACF) branch and was recognized for lifetime achievement by the Reno-Tahoe International Food Service Executives Association (IFSEA). McKillip feels it is very important to be prepared to answer customers’ questions. The way to be best prepared is to research the customer and ask the right questions which will give insight into their philosophies and needs. “I get to know our customers, so I can provide solutions to better run their business . . . US Foods is an incredible resource and many of our customers have no idea how much we have to offer.”

Chef Justin Johnson

The passion and pride Executive Chef Justin Johnson exhibits in his professional career makes him a formidable presence within the Northern Nevada area. Johnson draws inspiration from cultural influences from his hometown of Seattle, Washington and the many places he’s traveled. Johnson made the decision to pursue a culinary career while living in Dallas, Texas. Blending his budding interesting and growing knowledge of the industry, Johnson started working at the four-star Stonebriar Country Club under the culinary direction of Matt McNutt formerly of Charlie Trotter. That lead him to Reno, Nevada working at the prestigious Charlie Palmer as Sous Chef. From there, he headed back to his hometown of Seattle to work at Ruth’s Chris, the largest steakhouse company in the world, as their Executive Chef. Johnson then headed back to the Sierra Mountains to work as the Executive Chef at SODO Reno. He is now the Executive Chef of the Sparks Campo Restaurant. Chef Johnson donates his talent and time to local nonprofits and loves to share his knowledge and passion for food!

Chef Sean Sullivan

Chef Sean Sullivan, a hometown Reno boy, is excited to bring his wealth of experience back to Reno! After receiving a BA in Chemistry from the University of Nevada, Reno, Sullivan traveled to Calabria Italy to attend the Italian Culinary Institute in Calabria. After graduation, he explored the country, getting to work with pastry chefs, bakers and savory chefs, to round out his time spent in Italy. He moved to Washington D.C., where over the next 10 years he cooked in James Beard kitchens, for James Beard chefs, opened multiple restaurants and cooked for a multitude of politicians and Washington elite, honing his skills as he worked with some of the best chefs in D.C. Highlights of his East coast experiences include opening the Hamilton as the chef in charge of the 300-seat music venue, opening Glens Garden Market, an all locally sourced grocery store. Chef Sullivan returned to Reno in 2015 and began working as the Nugget’s Oyster Bar & Noodle Hut Room Chef in June 2017.

About the performers:

Legendary music icons, THREE DOG NIGHT, celebrating nearly 5 decades, claims some of the most astonishing statistics in popular music. In the years 1969 through 1974, no other group achieved more top 10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets than THREE DOG NIGHT.

THREE DOG NIGHT hits wind through the fabric of pop culture today, whether on the radio where they are heard day in and day out, in TV commercials or in major motion pictures --songs like “Mama Told Me (Not To Come)”, “Joy to the World”, “Black and White”, “Shambala” and “One” serve to heighten our emotions and crystallize THREE DOG NIGHT’s continuing popularity.

This Grammy-nominated band is not content resting on its legacy alone. Always working to expand its audience, THREE DOG NIGHT has embraced and been embraced by 21st century music technology. New and existing fans buy THREE DOG NIGHT’s music on iTunes as well as at record stores. In fact, releases from this decade alone have sold well over a million copies.

Recently, THREE DOG NIGHT began adding new songs to its arsenal by releasing its first double-A sided single in nearly 25 years. The blistering performance of "Heart Of Blues" and the timely, beautiful a-cappella ballad "Prayer of the Children” are available online at iTunes, Amazon.com and other digital retailers as well as through the official band website (www.threedognight.com).

THREE DOG NIGHT also pushed boundaries by recording with the London Symphony Orchestra, giving fans new and old a chance to experience its dynamic performances of the hits as well as several new songs. The project, recorded at the famous Abbey Road studios in London and released to coincide with the band’s 35th Anniversary, added exciting new orchestral arrangements to THREE DOG NIGHT’s signature sound.

THREE DOG NIGHT maintains an aggressive, year-round touring schedule of over 70 dates a year. The hit filled concerts are performed for generation-spanning audiences by Danny Hutton (founder/lead vocalist) and Michael Allsup (guitar), Paul Kingery (bass/vocals), Pat Bautz (drums), Howard Laravea (keyboards) and David Morgan (vocals). The band's now-famous name refers to native Australian hunters in the outback who huddled with their dogs for warmth on cold nights; the coldest being a “three dog night”.

Boasting chart and sales records that are virtually unmatched in popular music, THREE DOG NIGHT had 21 consecutive Top 40 hits, including 3 #1 singles, 11 Top 10’s, 18 straight Top 20’s, 7 million-selling singles and 12 straight RIAA Certified Gold LPs. The hits appeared on best selling charts in all genres (pop, rock and country). Its records continue to sell around the world, reaching beyond the borders of the U.S. into Japan, Canada, Holland, England, Germany, Spain and elsewhere. Tens of millions of THREE DOG NIGHT records have been sold through the years.

THREE DOG NIGHT recorded the music of the best (and mostly undiscovered) new song writers of that time including Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, Elton John, Laura Nyro, Paul Williams and Hoyt Axton among many others. The group’s eclectic taste, combined with its ability to recognize and record hits in a unique, distinctive and appealing style, resulted in THREE DOG NIGHT dominating the charts for years.

Now, marking nearly 50 years on the road, THREE DOG NIGHT continues to grow its fan base by keeping up a full schedule of concerts at theatres, performing arts centers, fairs, festivals, corporate events, and casinos. Since 1986, the band has performed over 2,200 shows including two Super Bowls.

About the Comedians:

Barry Neal -

Barry’s beginnings were unusual. After graduating from Northwestern University and completing a successful run in the famous Mee-Ow show (who’s celebrity members have included Julia Louis Dreyfus, Dermot Mulroney, George Newborn, Craig Bierko, Seth Meyers, and Ana Gasteyer), his brother dared him to go onstage at an open mic to do a routine. Barry was a hit that night, and knew that stand-up comedy was his next mountain to climb.

Barry learned from the best comedians in the country. Jerry Seinfeld was a regular. He watched people like Bill Maher, Ellen Degeneres, Paul Reiser and Tim Allen just to name a few. Barry learned by not only watching these comics but by being a good listener when these comics would talk comedy.

Barry’s style is clean and high energy, and his relationship material was a hit in almost every market. He quickly moved up the comedy ladder and was on cable and network tv, including MTV, NBC, Comedy Central, and VH-1. Barry’s act was noticed by a production company that loved his Counselor of Love persona, and his act is currently being shopped as a sitcom called The Counselor of Love, that Barry wrote along with his partner Dan Patterson, who was creator and executive producer of Who’s Line Is It Anyway?

Debbie Praver -

Debbie Praver lives in Los Angeles but is always more at home in New York City, because in Manhattan people are ready to order when they get to the front of the line.

Her delightful impatience, combined with her charmingly sarcastic wit, made standup comedy her only career option. She was an invited guest performer at the Las Vegas Comedy Festival, has shared the stage with Kathy Griffin in Dennis Hensley's Screening Party and performs regularly at the Improv, the Comedy Store and the Friar's Club.

Debbie honed her writing skills with Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry and co-executive producers Joey Murphy and John Pardee. The refinement of her standup act happened as she studied with the fabulously talented, yet brutally hones Improv owner, Mark Lonow.

She has been published in Los Angeles' Atomica magazine, is a fill-in sidekick for Dennis Hensley on his Sirius Out Q radio show and makes appearances on paper in Dennis Hensley's Misadventures in the 213 and Del Shore's novel, Sordid Lives.

Praver spent too many years in Disney costumes including Minnie Mouse, Pinocchio, Sneezy, Grumpy, Dopey, the March Hare (who??? ... the hare is in Alice In Wonderland), and in a pinch she crouched down to do Donald Duck in a parade. Because she towers at 5' 1" it appeared that Donald had joined the Rockettes.

After escaping from the tragic kingdom, she toured as the dance leader for the media tour of the Broadway musical Footloose, choreographed many fitness videos including Jeff Costa's Cardio Strip Tease, Denise Austin's Pilates Matwork and George Foreman's Walk It Off With George and also choreographed the series, The Method Workout for Fit TV.

Debbie received her BA in Physical Education/Exercise Physiology from Cal State University at Long Beach and can be found teaching all sorts of fitness classes around Los Angeles.

Debbie's uniquely feminine slant on life has entertained and enthralled audiences here and around the globe. Want to laugh? The she's everyone's gal to do it!

If you could go back again, would you? Comedy through the eyes of a child - the innocence, the naiveté, the simplistic view of problem solving. Is there one of us who has not longed for those days gone by? That one would be Pete George - he never left.

In an industry constantly looking to the horizon for the newest star, Pete has been considered by many to be the next to shine. His unique style and viewpoint drawn from his life is showcased through an adult body with an adolescent outlook.

The son of a West Point Army Band member, the first solo accordionist in their history, Pete was the "butt" of any and all jokes that you remember from youth, ultimately winding up in the Learning Disability (LD) Program in his high school through the cruelest joke of all – misunderstanding. His creativity, imagination and boundless energy was misinterpreted as emotionally disturbed behavior and Pete found himself seated among his LD classmates – it was there that Pete began to unknowingly build an act that would entertain thousands in comedy clubs, colleges and on television and film across the country.

Refusing to make a choice, Pete decided to use his powers for both good and evil, being funny and entertaining one minute – just plain annoying the next. Finally recognized for his abilities, Pete received a scholarship for his musical talent.

After fifteen years in the making, Pete is loose on society to help us regain what we have lost – The magic of our childhood innocence. Combining the twisted, musical upbringing of a heavy metal polka accordionist and a bright child trapped in an eccentric environment, Pete has traveled the country. Described as a "sitcom" waiting to happen, Pete’s variety of comedy and music entertains crossover audiences, old and young, big and small, rich and poor, by appealing to the insecure child in all of us – the one always picked last for the team, the one made fun of for the sweater his mother made him wear, and the one … Encouraged nightly by those coming up after his show saying, "We can’t wait to see you on TV."

US Foods is an incredible resource and many of our customers have no idea how much we have to offer.”

 About Gary Allan:

With the allure of a modern day outlaw, Gary Allan has won over fans, peers and critics with his signature blend of smoldering vocals, rebellious lyrics and raucous live performances. While becoming a force on the country music scene, Allan has remained true to his artistic voice each step of the way. Allan re-signed with Universal Music Group Nashville in 2016, the label home for the entirety of his twenty plus year career. He is currently finishing up work for his upcoming EMI Nashville release. His last album, SET YOU FREE, topped the Billboard 200 (Pop Chart), a career first for Allan.  The album also made its debut at the top of the Billboard Country Album chart (for the fourth time in a row), and produced his fifth #1 country radio chart topper with “Every Storm Runs Out Of Rain.”  The California native released his first album, Used Heart for Sale, in 1996 and since then has released eight additional studio albums selling over 8 million albums, 10 million tracks, been certified platinum on three back-to-back albums and been certified gold five times.  Allan has five #1 hits on country radio, fourteen Top 10 hits to his credit and has amassed over 1.5 billion total streams.  He’s described as “dark and dreamy” in Entertainment Weekly, “soulful and rough around the edges” in Playboy and deemed a “maverick” by Rolling Stone.  He sells out venues as a headliner from NY to LA, appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Live with Kelly and Michael and Jimmy Kimmel Live. He has also landed on the covers of Country Weekly, Pollstar and People magazine.
